ALCOY
At a height of 545m above sea
level Alcoy is a very busy city with numerous shops, bars,
restaurants and places of interest. It is a city full of
contrasts from its narrow streets of the working class to the
most select architecture of modern buildings. The view from
the city centre allows visitors to mark dozens of points of
interest. The entrance to the recreational area is the Font
Roja declared a Nature reserve of the Valencian Community
where visitors can find the sanctuary of the ‘Virgen de los
Lirios’. The highest peak of the nature reserve is the
Menejador. Also in the area visitors can find the Cava Coloma,
a snow store that long ago served to accumulate and establish
the ice trade. The Barranc del Cinc is a suitable place for
trekking; entering the Sierra Mariola, - also declared a
Natural park – it is characterized by both the variety and
quantity of aromatic and medicinal herbs.
Alcoy is an Industrial City
known as the city of bridges surrounded by the Sierra Mariola,
the Carrascalde la Font Rotja, the Sierra els plans and la
Serreta and between the rivers Molonar and Barchell. Alcoy has
an important industry related to textile, paper, food and
metal. It also has many factories which make matches. Alcoy is
perhaps most famous for its Moors and Christians festival held
in April which is one of the most spectacular in the area and
definitely a must.

Alicante Airport: -
Take A-7 motorway from Alicante Airport, exit junction 70 and
head towards Alcoy on the A77.
