BIAR
Biar is a quaint picturesque town surrounded by
the Fontanella, Reconco and Mariola mountain ranges, and the
Pea Rubia peak. Walking around the old quarter wandering
along its peaceful well conserved, traditional narrow streets
is delightful. As you reach the top of the hill you are
confronted by a monumental walled Moorish castle. This area is
full of history and a visit to the museum completes the day.
From the top of the castle you can see Biars natural
surroundings with leafy forests rising up to the mountains,
large pines are in some cases at an altitude of more than
1,200 meters. Just a kilometre away you can find the Santuari
Mare de Deu de Gracia shrine situated in a peaceful
recreational area, two and a quarter kilometres from the
shrine camping is allowed at the Lomas de Jara and Cova Negra
where there are toilets and other facilities. There are many
walks here with spectacular views of the coast of Alicante and
the townships of Onil, Castalla and Ibi. Around the outskirts
of Biar new buildings are also found here of many different
types. The industrial side of Biar thrives on the production
of dolls and pottery.
