CASTALLA
The town of Castalla is located
680 metres above sea level in picturesque mountain
surroundings about 30km North West of Alicante. The town is
overlooked by a walled medieval
castle
which was built around the 11th century. There is also the
16th century
Catholic
church
of la Asuncin and the town hall dating back to the 17th
century. As you walk through the old parts of the town you
find narrow streets, the place is full of history and it has a
traditional Spanish feel about it. The main centre has all the
modern facilities and yet retains its charm. The market which
is held twice a week provides an excellent range of products
and always offers value for money.
Castalla is the ideal place for
those people who want to live in country style surroundings
with excellent scenery of flowing hills and almond trees. The
beaches of San Juan and El Campello are all within an easy drive.
The economy of Castalla is based
on
farming
(almonds,
olives
and
grapes)
and the industries of
toys,
construction materials,
furniture and
textile.
One of the most important festivals that takes place in
Castalla every year is the
Moors
and Christians festival of Castalla which is celebrated each
September.
