Concentaina
A lovely old Spanish town
Cocentaina is the capital of the Comtat region, and both its
mountain location (based at an altitude of 434 metres) and its
content filled heritage make this stately town an attractive
tourist destination . Cocentaina includes mountainous terrain
to the west, the urban centre and the valley to the east
through which the River Serpis runs. The main language spoken
here is Valencian. The town has a history linked to both the
Moors and the Christians. A medieval fortified palace Palau
Comtal can be found in the old Christian quarter. The maze of
lanes and alleyways of the old Moorish parts of the town are
interesting to explore and packed with fine old buildings.
Concentainas centre is considered one of the best preserved
