Elda
Elda is a
city famous for its
footwear industry in particular womens shoes and is located
395 metres above sea level in the province of Alicante it
joins together with the town of Petrer to form a conurbation
of over 85,000 inhabitants. The river Vinalopo flows through
the urban area of Elda. There are a number of well maintained
parks, historical buildings, churches and museums to visit
including the Church of Santa Ana and the semi-ruined Elda
castle which is located on a hill to the north. The city has
an ample range of shops and a
huge indoor market selling fresh produce that is open 6 days a
week. An open air market is held on Tuesdays and Saturdays,
selling clothes, shoes and other goods.
Elda has a
national RENFE railway station with fast connections to
Alicante, Murcia and the rest of Spain. The city is easy to
get too and is served by the main A31.

The main celebration is the Moors and the Christians which is
celebrated the first weekend in June. Others are held
throughout the year.

Elda has plenty of schools, including a
university, a new hospital, a 10 screen cinema complex and a
Carrefour hypermarket and shopping centre complete with
drive-through McDonalds.
