VILLENA
Villena is a busy Spanish town
with older parts of the town containing many
historical features including the Arabic Castle “Castillo de
la Atalaya” and the narrow back streets and remaining arches
which are the entrances to the old town. The locals are are
polite and friendly, and will make the visit of anyone who
wants to delve into its unusual features welcome. The newer
parts of the town are in contrast and offer all of today’s
modern facilities on wide and accessible streets. Situated
just outside the town is the “Sanctuary of Nuestra Senora de
las Virtudes”the patron of Villena where a lovely walk through
the pinewood can be found. Villena is a bustling expanding
city and has grown considerably. The geography of Villena is
varied, with steep mountain ranges - in general without
vegetation - and fertile quaternary valleys, where there are
cultivated areas. The temperature in Villena averages just 6
degrees in January and 35 degrees in July/August.
